Helpful Info for Parents

1.   Practice and Match Schedule:

2.    Equipment:

  • Tennis racket (1 extra if your player is breaking strings, rackets should be re-strung every 12-18 months)

  • Water bottle

  • Sunblock (Neutrogena, Supergoop)

  • Tennis stringing (Poly strings, Yonex Poly Pro, Tecnifibre Black Code).   Re-string at least every 9 months if they aren’t breaking them.  If you don’t know the string tension, just tell stringer the midpt of the recommended range. 

  • Tennis overgrips (Wilson-Medium, Head-Thin)

  • Tennis shoes (Asics, Nike, KSwiss, Wilson).   Shoe fit very individual-specfic and you should try pairs on live in a tennis store.   Don’t buy online.   Just as important as a ski boot. 

  • Tennis visor  (maybe non-polarized sunglasses)

    • Guys w/ Long Hair - get hair ties, bandana or good tennis hat. 

  • Mid-match snacks  (Bananas, Z Bar, Power Bar)

  • Old tennis phrase:  “Are you prepared for the conditions?” (aka dress in layers, warm-up pants, jackets)

  • Cost range:   $100 - $220 in this area, ave. for decent coach is $145.  Yes, it is expensive in Silicon Valley.
